The hour that travels
What five o’clock means here
Five o’clock is literal here
A place joins the map only while its own clock reads 5:00–5:59 PM. Daylight-saving changes and every civil offset—including the half-hour and quarter-hour zones—are calculated in local time. As the Earth turns, the gold hour travels west. A familiar city leads the page while every other place sharing the hour stays available in Places pouring now.
How each drink is chosen
Documented classics and recognized local serves come first, followed by drinks built around a place’s own spirits, produce, and traditions; a city is never paired with an unrelated country’s drink. About a hundred places on this map have no documented national cocktail. We invented one for each, from local ingredients—and say so on every page. That accounts for 73 of 169 recipes.
Where alcohol isn't poured
Places where alcohol is prohibited or tightly restricted remain on the world clock, but their cards show what people actually drink there. Tea, sharbat, doogh, borhani, and regional coolers replace invented alcoholic pairings and are clearly labeled non-alcoholic. Every recommendation respects the featured place, and every recipe gives measured ingredients, a complete method, its glass, garnish, and story.
